Return to a safehome
A safehome is another place INAV can land when it returns. With safehomes in use, return heads for the nearest enabled one that sits within range, instead of the spot where the craft was armed.
The choice is Off, Every return, or Failsafe returns only. Off means every return still uses the arming point. Every return uses a safehome on any return. Failsafe returns only uses one when the return is a failsafe.
This is INAV return home. It is not Betaflight GPS Rescue. Basic return altitude and landing stay on the failsafe settings. This card is the extra landing site.
Free. Hardware connections need Chrome or Edge on a computer; phones use the FlySpark app.

In short
A safehome is an extra landing site for INAV return home. Return heads for the nearest enabled one within range of the arming point. Off leaves every return on the arming point, and this is not Betaflight GPS Rescue.
Key facts
- Safehomes are INAV only. Return home here is not Betaflight GPS Rescue.
- Use them for every return, for failsafe returns only, or leave them off.
- Use only within 0 to 650 m of where the craft was armed, in steps of 10 m. The demo starts at 200 m.
- Press and hold the map to place the next empty slot and turn it on.
- The app asks for slots until the board refuses one, and it stops at 16. The demo has 8.
- A position is stored to a ten-millionth of a degree. An empty slot is still 0, 0.
- All slots full: select one to move it. No slots: the board did not report any.
- Chrome or Edge uses USB or Bluetooth. iPhone has no USB host.

Place a safehome
Tap the map to place a landing site. Return uses it only when it is close enough to where you armed.

Features
- 01
Nearest site in range
Return picks the nearest enabled safehome within the distance limit, instead of the arming point.
- 02
Off, every return, or failsafe
Off ignores safehomes. Every return uses them on any return. Failsafe returns only waits for a failsafe.
- 03
0 to 650 metres
Use only within that distance of where the craft was armed. The step is 10 m. The demo starts at 200 m.
- 04
Press and hold to place
A long press fills the next empty slot and turns it on. Tap a pin to edit it. The map pans with two fingers.
- 05
Up to 16 slots
FlySpark asks until the board refuses an index, and it stops at 16. The demo reports 8. The corner counts how many are enabled.
- 06
An approach can ride along
A fixed-wing safehome can store a landing approach. Saving the safehome writes that approach back, because the firmware clears it.
When return uses a safehome
The footer on the card says return heads for the nearest enabled safehome within range instead of the arming point. Enabled matters. A slot with a position but the switch off is not a target. The corner of the card counts enabled slots over the number the board reported.
Use only within is metres from where the craft was armed. The stored value runs from 0 to 65000, and the field shows that as 0 to 650 m, in steps of 10. The demo starts at 200 m. The map draws that distance as a circle around each enabled safehome. At 0 the circles are not drawn.
Off stores the mode that does not use safehomes, so return stays on the arming point. Every return is the mode the demo starts on. Failsafe returns only leaves a normal return on the arming point and uses a safehome when the return is a failsafe. Pick the one the flight actually needs. A site you placed is ignored while the mode is Off.
If the nearest enabled site is farther from the arming point than the limit, it is not in range. Return then uses the arming point. Move the site closer, raise the distance, or turn that slot off and use another.
Placing the pins
Press and hold on the map to place the next safehome. The app finds the first slot that is still 0, 0, writes the point you held, and turns that slot on. A short tap on a pin opens it so you can change the latitude, the longitude, or the enabled switch.
One finger dragging the map scrolls the page. Pinch and two-finger drag pan and zoom. Show all fits the placed pins, and the craft if it has a GPS fix, back into the frame.
When every slot already has a position, a long press does not add another. The message says all safehome slots are in use, and to select one to move it. When the board reports none, the card says this flight controller doesn't report any safehome slots.
FlySpark reads slot 0, then 1, and so on, and stops when the board rejects an index or the reply is too short. It will not ask past 16. The demo answers 8 slots. The number on your board is the number in the corner, not a guess. Coordinates are stored to a ten-millionth of a degree, which is how the safehome message carries latitude and longitude.
A landing approach on the same slot
Each safehome can carry a fixed-wing approach: headings and altitudes for a landing into wind. A heading of 0 means that leg is unused. A negative heading is flown only in that direction, never reversed.
Writing a safehome clears that approach in the firmware. FlySpark reads the approach first and writes it back in the same save, so editing the pin does not wipe a landing you already stored. If you meant to change the approach, change it in the editor before you save.
Geozones are a different card. One switch there can treat the nearest safehome as an allowed area, so return can still reach it when the site sits outside a zone. The zone shapes and actions are the geozones guide.
Where you set it
The safehome card is on Advanced nav, and only on INAV. Betaflight has no safehome slots. GPS Rescue on Betaflight is a different return, with its own altitude and speed, and it does not read these pins.
Chrome or Edge connects over USB or Bluetooth. Android adds Wi-Fi. iPhone uses Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and has no USB host. The map itself is on the page either way. Saving the slots uses the link to the board.
FlySpark
Set a safehome
Open Advanced nav
Connect an INAV board and open the safehome card. The corner shows how many slots are enabled.
Choose when
Off, Every return, or Failsafe returns only. The demo starts on Every return.
Set the distance
Use only within is 0 to 650 m from the arming point, in steps of 10. The demo starts at 200 m.
Place the pin
Press and hold the map. That fills the next empty slot and turns it on. Save before you fly.
Troubleshooting
Common problems and fixes
Problem
Return still goes to the arming point
Fix
The mode is Off, the slot is disabled, or the site is farther from the arming point than Use only within.
Problem
A long press does nothing
Fix
Every slot already has a position. Select one and move it. The board will not grow past the slots it reported.
Problem
The card says there are no slots
Fix
This board did not answer a safehome request. There is nowhere to place a pin until the firmware reports slots.
Problem
The landing approach disappeared
Fix
Saving a safehome clears the approach in the firmware. FlySpark writes the approach back with the pin. Set the approach in the editor, then save.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is an INAV safehome?
An extra landing site. Return can head there instead of the place the craft was armed, when the site is enabled and within range.
Is this GPS Rescue?
No. GPS Rescue is Betaflight. A safehome is INAV return home, on the Advanced nav tab.
When is a safehome used?
Off never. Every return uses one on any return. Failsafe returns only uses one when the return is a failsafe.
How far can a safehome be?
Use only within is 0 to 650 m from the arming point, in steps of 10 m. The demo starts at 200 m. At 0 the range circles are not drawn.
How do I place one?
Press and hold the map. That writes the next empty slot and turns it on. Tap the pin to edit it.
How many safehomes can I store?
As many as the board reports, and FlySpark stops asking at 16. The demo reports 8. The corner shows enabled over total.
What if every slot is full?
A long press says all safehome slots are in use, and to select one to move it.
What is stored in a slot?
Enabled, latitude and longitude. The position is a ten-millionth of a degree. An empty slot is still 0, 0.
Can a safehome have a landing approach?
Yes, on fixed-wing. Headings and altitudes ride with the slot. Heading 0 is unused. Saving the pin writes the approach back, because the firmware clears it.
Can I set this in Chrome?
Yes, on INAV. Chrome or Edge uses USB or Bluetooth. Android adds Wi-Fi. iPhone uses Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and has no USB host.
